NPA’s Mine Action programme in Lebanon aims to protect civilians from the dangers of landmines, unexploded ordnance, and other weapons, with a strong focus on inclusion and environmental responsibility. The project applies principles of Gender Equality and Participatory Programming at every stage—from assessments and analysis (gender, age and disability at a minimum) to planning and monitoring. NPA’s Protection Programming also incorporates environmental considerations into operations, working to minimise the ecological impact of activities such as demining and to promote responsible, sustainable field practices.

NPA's Food security and livelihoods (FSL) programme in Lebanon responds to the needs of vulnerable Lebanese and Palestinian host communities and refugee families from Syria and strengthens community resilience, including analysis based on gender, age and disability. The communities are provided with food assistance in the form of either food parcels or ready-to-consume meals, as well as offered Cash for Work (CfW) assistance in the fields of construction, agriculture, and environmental services. NPA fosters environmental sustainability and community sustenance through a multi-faceted support that includes trainings and provisions of equipment to farmers.

NPA Lebanon works with local partners to support women and girls survivors and at risk of SGBV, by ensuring access to life-saving services and as well as addressing the causes of SGBV. Women and girls receive safe referrals and/or direct access to individual case management and multi-sectorial and comprehensive services, both individually and in groups. Women, girls and relevant stakeholders in the communities we serve are consulted to determine safe and culturally appropriate approaches for the activities, aiming at offering transformative interventions that will offer real protection to women and girls. Women led households, persons with disabilities, SGBV survivors, and vulnerable women and girls are specifically targeted with activities and services aimed at strengthening their resilience, for example addressing economic vulnerability as a factor that increases exposure to SGBV, via, for example, Cash-for-Protection (CfP) and/or Cash-for-Work (CfW) activities directed to vulnerable women. At the same time, NPA Lebanon and partners ensure communities participate in sensitization activities aimed at engaging them in preventing SGBV. The project further addresses complex protection needs of civilians in conflict affected areas of southern Lebanon through integrated interventions focused on SGBV, Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA), and Housing, Land and Property (HLP) assistance. NPA and its partners ensure that all activities are carried out using conflict sensitive and Do No Harm approaches. Other implementing institutions: SEF - Service de l'enfant au foyer, Association Naj

Protection against explosive weapons "Humanitarian support to Norwegian People's Aid's Ukraine response on protection of civilians against explosive weapons (through survey, clearance and risk education). NPA's mine action response in Ukraine aims at protecting civilians from potential death and injury through the clearance and release of EO-contaminated land for safe and productive use and by increasing the resilience of civilians through the dissemination of key, life-saving safety messages. This will also allow the re-establishment of critical civilian infrastructure and services, as well as humanitarian assistance and will create the necessary conditions for future return of IDPs and refugees. The project will strive to document the consequences on the armed conflict on the environment with the aim of strengthening, protecting and mitigating the environmental impact of clearance activities when working on agricultural land. NPA's activities will benefit host communities, returnees and IDPs in all project regions"

Food Security and Livelihoods - Asia Regional "NPA in Asia regional supports crisis-affected individuals by ensuring their immediate food needs are met while strengthening their long-term resilience. The humanitarian response uses a combination of gender-, age-, and disabilities sensitive assistance modalities. In areas where markets remain accessible, households receive multipurpose cash assistance to address urgent food requirements. In locations where market access is limited but supply chains allow, affected populations receive in-kind food distributions and essential non-food items. Alongside emergency support, NPA helps communities begin recovering their livelihoods. Individuals participate in livelihood empowerment activities that include community-based environmentally sustainable agricultural support, climate-adaptation initiatives, and small-scale vocational skills training. These activities aim to improve self-reliance and reduce vulnerability to future shocks."

Protection of Civilians against Weapons and SGBV - Asia Regional "NPA supports conflict-affected women and girls, and people with disabilities through essential protection assistance. The programme provides access to safe spaces, non-food items such as hygiene and dignity kits, temporary cash support, nutritional assistance, and a confidential hotline offering guidance and referrals for those at risk of or surviving gender-based violence. Community awareness on gender-based violence and child protection is strengthened through dialogue sessions, training of partners, and outreach campaigns. These activities improve understanding of protection risks and help communities engage safely and supportively with affected individuals. NPA further enhances community self-protection by delivering training on explosive ordnance risks and child protection. Participants increase their knowledge of hazards and safer behaviours through structured awareness sessions. The programme also conducts non-technical surveys to identify hazardous areas, helping assess risks and inform future protection and clearance efforts. Life-saving explosive ordnance risk information is shared during food security and livelihoods activities, ensuring wide reach among conflict-affected households."

Mine Action in Bosnia and Herzegovina NPA Bosnia and Herzegovina is providing targeted capacity-development support to the Bosnia and Herzegovina Mine Action Centre (BHMAC), while also completing the administrative processes required to sustainably and responsibly close NPA’s longstanding programme in the country, active since 1996. NPA’s operations have contributed to the clearance of high-priority agricultural land with the lowest negative environmental impacts, and other community-critical areas such as household fuelwood collection zones and grazing land. NPA has helped significantly to reduce explosives-related accidents, and contributed through fostering Gender Equality principles and standards in the Mine Action sector.

Mine Action in Ethiopia "NPA’s Mine Action programme in Ethiopia aims to protect civilians from the dangers of landmines, unexploded ordnance, and other weapons, with a strong focus on inclusion and environmental responsibility. The project applies principles of Gender Equality and Participatory Programming at every stage—from assessments and analysis (gender, age and disability at a minimum) to planning and monitoring. NPA’s Protection Programming also incorporates environmental considerations into operations, working to minimise the ecological impact of activities such as demining and to promote responsible, sustainable field practices." ----- NORAD

Protection from Sexual and Gender Based Violence in Ethiopia NPA’s Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) programme in Ethiopia establishes a comprehensive, locally driven protection response to current and emerging needs. Integrating SGBV prevention with Protection from Explosive Weapons, the programme is designed around local actors as primary agents of change. It focuses on addressing immediate protection needs of conflict-affected communities while establishing flexible, scalable systems capable of adapting to a potential escalation in conflict. Through strengthened local capacities, integrated protection methodologies, and close collaboration with community structures, NPA aims to contribute to safer, more resilient environments for women, men, girls, and boys across Ethiopia.

Weapons and Ammunition Management "NPA's Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) programme supports states in increasing civilian protection by reducing risks arising from the availability of weapons, proliferation, dangerous and insecure ammunition storage areas, and inadequate efforts for the destruction of surplus weapons and ammunition. The WAM programme provides technical guidance, training, and capacity development to national authorities, including States Parties to the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) and other instruments. The WAM programme promotes gender-, age-, and disabilities-responsive design, for example, in risk education, and applies international best standards to minimise the negative environmental impact of interventions." ----- NORAD
