NPA’s Mine Action programme in Lebanon aims to protect civilians from the dangers of landmines, unexploded ordnance, and other weapons, with a strong focus on inclusion and environmental responsibility. The project applies principles of Gender Equality and Participatory Programming at every stage—from assessments and analysis (gender, age and disability at a minimum) to planning and monitoring. NPA’s Protection Programming also incorporates environmental considerations into operations, working to minimise the ecological impact of activities such as demining and to promote responsible, sustainable field practices.

Policy and Advocacy "NPA’s Humanitarian Policy and Protection of Civilians programme aims to promote faithful implementation of and further strengthen the international legal frameworks, norms, and principles that must be upheld before, during, and after conflict. This work supports the wider conditions needed for peacebuilding, reconstruction, and long-term development. Gender and diversity mainstreaming is a top priority for the programme as the humanitarian disarmament sector remains traditionally male-dominated. To address this, NPA’s policy team includes a dedicated Gender and Diversity Focal Point, who supports programmes and policy staff in implementing the NPA Gender Equality Policy and strengthens internal and external capacity to ensure effective gender and diversity mainstreaming. Further, NPA is an active member of the Global Gender and Diversity Working Group, which promotes the inclusion of gender and diversity considerations (including disability inclusion) across the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (APMBC), the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM), and the broader mine action and humanitarian disarmament sector. Through this engagement, NPA contributes to more inclusive policies, better representation, and improved protection outcomes for all affected populations." ----- NORAD

Protection from Sexual and Gender Based Violence in Syria "NPA’s SGBV programme in Syria supports local partners who prioritize serving women and girls affected by violence through integrated prevention and response services aiming at strengthening their wellbeing, resilience, and protection. Women and girls' access SGBV case management and psychosocial support, as well as comprehensive and multisectoral services through referrals and women and girls' safe spaces, delivered by trained staff within the local partner organizations. Our programmes prioritize structured life skills training and reintegration support to help women and girls survivors of and at risk of SGBV to regain confidence, strengthen coping skills, and pursue pathways to economic empowerment and social participation as prevention measures against SGBV. Community outreach promotes safer environments by raising awareness on SGBV risks, gender equality, tackling normalization of SGBV, strengthening positive social norms, and disseminating available services. Male engagement initiatives and public dialogues reach all community members, fostering shared responsibility to tackle SGBV. Community-based protection structures are strengthened through the establishment and training of SGBV committees that contribute to advocacy, early warning, and community assessments. All activities prioritise gender, age, and disability inclusion, ensuring survivors and individuals at risk—including marginalized groups—access, respectful, confidential, and survivor-centred care. "ces." ----- NORAD
