Protection against explosive weapons "Humanitarian support to Norwegian People's Aid's Ukraine response on protection of civilians against explosive weapons (through survey, clearance and risk education). NPA's mine action response in Ukraine aims at protecting civilians from potential death and injury through the clearance and release of EO-contaminated land for safe and productive use and by increasing the resilience of civilians through the dissemination of key, life-saving safety messages. This will also allow the re-establishment of critical civilian infrastructure and services, as well as humanitarian assistance and will create the necessary conditions for future return of IDPs and refugees. The project will strive to document the consequences on the armed conflict on the environment with the aim of strengthening, protecting and mitigating the environmental impact of clearance activities when working on agricultural land. NPA's activities will benefit host communities, returnees and IDPs in all project regions"

Mine Action in Bosnia and Herzegovina NPA Bosnia and Herzegovina is providing targeted capacity-development support to the Bosnia and Herzegovina Mine Action Centre (BHMAC), while also completing the administrative processes required to sustainably and responsibly close NPA’s longstanding programme in the country, active since 1996. NPA’s operations have contributed to the clearance of high-priority agricultural land with the lowest negative environmental impacts, and other community-critical areas such as household fuelwood collection zones and grazing land. NPA has helped significantly to reduce explosives-related accidents, and contributed through fostering Gender Equality principles and standards in the Mine Action sector.

Global Training Centre - Mine Detection Dogs NPA’s Global Training Centre (GTC) strengthens global mine action by breeding, training, and deploying high-quality Mine Detection Dogs (MDDs), and by providing specialized technical support to NPA programmes. As MDD use is a central low-impact detection method, the GTC plays a key role in promoting environmentally responsible mine action practices. Through expert training, development of handler and trainer courses, and continuous quality assurance, the GTC ensures safe, effective, and internationally standardized detection capacity across NPA’s operations. The centre supports programmes with technical advice, resources for launching new MDD operations, and innovations that improve how detection dogs are used in land release. By enhancing the speed and safety of clearance, the GTC helps save lives, avoids unnecessary disabilities and enables communities to safely use previously contaminated land. GTC further contributes to operational standards, gender-equal employment practices, and broader efforts to strengthen gender equality in the mine action sector. ----- NORAD

Programme and Concept Development NPA’s Project and Concept Development programme strengthens the organization’s ability to deliver safe, sustainable, and high-quality mine action and humanitarian operations. The programme advances work on environmental management and climate resilience in line with international mine action standards, enhances medical support systems, and assesses needs and humanitarian access in countries affected by mines, cluster munitions, and other explosive remnants of war. This supports NPA’s commitment to environmental sustainability, gender-, age-, and disability sensitive protection approaches, and capacity-building in line with Norway’s humanitarian priorities. The PCD programme pilots new approaches to integrating environmental and climate considerations into mine action through targeted field projects, capturing lessons that can be applied across NPA country operations. Medical support missions ensure programmes meet international medical standards, strengthen staff competencies, and update procedures to maintain safe mine action practices. Assessment missions, carried out at the request of national authorities or sector partners, help determine the relevance and added value of NPA engagement in new or emerging contexts.

----- NORAD
